Divi Dutch Village
REVIEW - gymchick05: June 2011. We stayed at the Divi Dutch Village which is an AI and includes the Divi/Tamerjan/Dutch Village/Golf Village so it included over 11 restaurants and amazing beaches and pools. The resort was terrific and even though its a short walk, they have golf carts to take you all over the resort if you want to get places faster. The food was amazing, the beaches were beautiful, and all the people were so friendly. We did the jeep tour of the island, the snorkeling excusion, and the moonlight cruise- all of them were great and everything included a full open bar- even snorkeling which started at 9am and I was boo'd when I asked for water haha. We also had dinner one night at Windows on Aruba which is has amazing views and at the Flying Fishbone which was awesome but the mosquitoes were eating me alive. Overall an amazing time and 50 Cent was on our flight on the way there haha.
Occidental Grand
REVIEW: kristen 8040: My DH has stayed here before and really wanted to go back again if we were going to Aruba. I at first booked the RUI but we changed our mind because we liked the tropical feel of the Occidental more than the palace feel of the RUI. Due to our trouble with the travel agent, we were upgraded from a deluxe partial ocean view to a full ocean view with grand concierge service. When we went to check in, we found out they were not able to extend our stay one day because the resort was completely booked for Friday. Instead, they upgraded us again to oceanfront with a huge jacuzzi, which was nice. The staff at the Occidental were always helpful, the poolbar was awesome, and the food was great. Halfway through our stay, DH wanted to see if room service breakfast was available, which it is only if you are Royal Club. A few people had recommended it but I really didn't think the extra expense was necessary. When he was told at the concierge that it was only an additional $30 per day to be royal club, we signed up. You have access to another restaurant, bar with premium liquors, room service, free wi-fi, and priority seating at dinners. We felt it was well worth for the room service alone. The only cons we saw was that our last night dinner at the Italian restaurant was screwed up because they overbooked, the food manager came to talk to us about it and ended up bringing DH lobster for dinner which he loved. Also people not only reserve beach huts and chairs and pool chairs cabanas early in the morning, but they leave floats and towels on them at night as well. It didn't bother us too much since we're usually in the pool or ocean, but it was still annoying. Finally, there were a lot of kids. I assume it was time time of year and if you went when school was going on, it wouldn't be that bad, but it was not always a pleasant experience, especially when you're on your honeymoon. I think for our next vacation we're going to do adults only.
Riu Palace
REVIEW - maddie7: August 2010. Approx cost for 8 days in a suite $6K all inclusive. Aruba was absolutely beautiful. Since we married in August we needed somewhere out of the hurricane belt and Aruba is safe. We booked the Riu Palace for its many amenities. We were not disappointed with the hotel, its probably the most appealing one there, its gorgeous. We paid extra for the suite that was the size of an apartment! We had a spa tub in the middle of the room, very cool! Aruba's beaches were lovely, and the tradewinds took away any heat. There was a nightly show, a casino, and bars all around. I would recommend the jeep tour to anyone, my husband and I had such a blast. The snorkeling was very crowded and it felt like the Titanic with the amount of people in the water around us. Now why I wouldnt go back to the RIU, the food got old, you got tried of the buffet place, the Don Nichols. And to book the restaurants in the evening, you had to be in the lobby DAILY at 8 am and stand in line for them. They were better than the buffet but not by much. If you are a huge eater you will love the buffet. Secondly, the beaches in Aruba are PUBLIC, so when we went into the water someone went into our bag and took our camera and room key (this was on the first day!) What a nightmare! Thirdly, the downtown of Aruba is nothing but a shopping mall, and not much at that. Fourth, everyone got up at 6 am to put down towels on chairs near the pool and beach, so if you didnt get up you didnt have anywhere to sit! The pool also held various games and blasted music all day long, very spring-breakish! At times you just wanted silence! And finally, Aruba lacked culture, it felt like America with the Dunkin Donuts on the beach! I wanted culture like Bermuda and it just wasn't there.
Marriot Stelleris Resert & Casino
REVIEW - RamsKR01: August 2011 LOVED IT! We did their Tradewinds Floor, which is a more expensive than a regular hotel room, but less than some of the all-inclusive hotels there. You are on the 8th (top) floor and there is a seperate lounge. You have a conceirge in the lounge only for Tradewinds guests which was great for reccomendations to places and making reservations. Included in the package was a full breakfast (hot and cold), full lunch (salads, wraps, soups, sandwiches, dessert) and a one-hour "discovery hour" at night from 6-7. The discovery hour always had 2 hot dishes from one of the hotel restaurants, 1-2 salads, sushi, sashimi, assortment of cheeses and dessert. You could then get dessert later in the night also (they put out just cheeses and dessert from 8-9 pm). You could get water, juice, soda and beer all day; open bar was only at night 6-9 pm and that included liquor, wine and champagne in addition to the beer. If you were on that floor you also had other amenities if you wanted - free pressing service from their cleaners, free rafts for the pool and beach (usually $5/day), and free beach hut (they were called palapas) rental. The only thing with the palapas and rafts is that it was first come first serve. If you are planning on going to Aruba - I highly suggest you look into the Tradewinds. We got a deal with every 5th night free and $100 credit to use on the resort. The 5th night free helped up decide to go for 10 days instead of 7 (we only had to pay for 8).

BERMUDA
The Reefs Hotel & Club
REVIEW - Reilly626: Absolute Paradise! Bermuda has been the nicest island I have ever visited. You must go though June- September, otherwise its too cold to swim. Everyone in Bermuda was so nice and helpful. There is a bus system you can ride all week all over the island that is so easy. Some people rent scooters, but we didnt feel comfortable with the crazy drivers. The resort itself is gorgeous and probably rated the best resort in Bermuda. We loved dining on a cliff over the ocean nightly. We had the best service ever. If you really love being off by yourself you will love Bermuda. Of course we went to Horseshoe Bay but if you continue to wander you come to private coves where you and your husband can be alone. We had our own cove we went to every day. It was so awesome. We loved the British culture all around and loved the pubs in Hamilton. There is also a nice club at Elbow Beach Hotel as well as a restaurant right on the beach. One of my favorite things to eat there was Bermudian Rockfish. They are famous for the Rum Swizzlers and Ginger Beer. I cannot rave enough about Bermuda. Its only a 2 hour flight from NJ and its just so gorgeous! There is plenty to do or not do, forts to explore, underwater caves, water sports, horses, boating, fishing. We are big swimmers and just lying around the cove. I highly recommend Bermuda.

Majestic Colonial
REVIEW - N/A: June 2011. All inclusive resort set on a long stretch of private beach in Punta Cana. There were 2 options for breakfast and lunch, 5 options for dinner including 3 reservation only restaurants, a late night restaurant, plus room service. We got an oceanview suite and the view was amazing - gorgeous sunsets and all right outside our balcony. The food was very good, tappanakki, mexican/dominican fusion, french, american buffets etc. Something to please everyone. I think there were like 7 bars, a night club and a casino (which was very small, we went there once for like 10 minutes). The pool was 400 meters long, winding lagoon style with a swim up bar and very clean as was the beach, grounds, and rooms. Staff was friendly, though some clearly didn't understand English too well, fortunately I speak spanish OK, and my wife is fluent. There are non-motorized water sports included, activities day and night, live music every night and live entertainment every night which was mostly cheesy until the last night when there was a Michael Jackson impersonator there who was an incredible dancer. We absolutely loved our stay. The area outside the resort is very poor so we didn't venture out on our own, and you have to be very VERY careful about not drinking the water. I only drank bottled water and still (likely from raw veggies/fruits or maybe even seafood?) I contracted a bacteria that took over a week to clear up! I would recommend looking into rooms in the Majestic Elegance instead of the Colonial because it's the newer Majestic resort, the Colonial needed a little repair/updating on small things here and there. Oh and they were gay welcoming, not overtly friendly, but we were ok with that. They just let us be and that's what we wanted really.
Secrets Sanctuary Cap Cana
REVIEW - NikkiPSU: June 2011. The resort was breathtakingly beautiful , we originally booked the Castle Junior Suite and because it was our honeymoon we were upgraded to the Castle Junior Suite Oceanview! The room was amazing and the view was beautiful. The food was ehhhh, but towards the end of the vacation we were able to figure out what to eat. Out of the restaurants there the Blue Marlin and the Wok were our favorite, but make sure to eat outside the Wok, I wasn't a huge fan of the hibachi. The resort is all inclusive, which also includes 24 hour room service. The resort has so much going on that you never really have to leave! We received a schedule of events everyday at turn down service, the events usually included bike rides, pool aerobics, volleyball tournament, cigar tasting, rum tasting, beer pong, spanish lessons, nightly shows, the list could truly go on and on! We are already planning our trip back there!

Dreams Los Cabos
REVIEW - cindy9178: November 2011. We stayed at Dreams Los Cabos for 8 days for our Honeymoon from end of October/beginning of November. When we arrived, check in was quick and our room was ready (it was 3pm). We were introduced to Christian who quickly showed us around, got us drinks from the bar and then sat us down and started asking some questions. He talked about getting us discounts on excursions and invited us to a breakfast the following morning. At this time, we had no idea it was a Vacation Club presentation. He said we’d eat breakfast and then hear a presentation about some other Dreams Resorts, etc. We were under the impression that other couples would be there and it was more of a “welcome breakfast”. The following morning, we went to the desk and were asked more questions again, then we went to breakfast with some guy, who then showed us a suite and then did the “presentation” with us (we were the only people). It turned out to be a Vacation Club, similar to a timeshare, and he pressured us for over an hour into purchasing this. We finally got out of it, but were still able to get some great discounts on the excursions we wanted to do. We just felt tricked and didn’t appreciate that.
The hotel is pretty smaller, smaller than we expected (about 300 rooms). They have one main pool, with loud music and activities. It has an infinity edge facing the ocean. The second pool is called the Adults Only/Tranquility pool (no views). Both have a swim up bar, ledges to sit on, etc. There is a Jacuzzi in the main pool. The pools were always clean. They have signs up about saving chairs with towels or objects, which was enforced. If you leave a towel on a chair for an hour, they take the towel to free up the chair for someone else. So we never had a problem finding chairs, even towards the end of the week when it got more crowded.
The rooms were nice and clean and the maid service was amazing. She gave us fresh towels every day, organized the bathroom sink for us (our items), and did turn down every night, which included filling our ice bucket (we didn’t realize that until the last night!). We had a junior suite which included a kitchen with sink, a mini fridge, a sofa, a table, coffee table and 2 chairs. The balcony was also large with a table and chairs, overlooking the main pool and ocean views.
The service at the hotel overall was impeccable. We never had to wait for a drink at the bar, and after a few days, the bartender knew our drinks and had them ready for us as soon as we walked (or swam) up to the bar. Everyone was VERY friendly and pleasant. The Ipod connection was broken in our alarm clock and they brought a new one to us shortly after we asked.
They have activities every day and we participated in some of them. We attended the “manager’s cocktail” which was different than we expected. They spun a roulette wheel and picked a few winners – I won the first prize! (2 for 1 on the Sunset Cruise). We also attended the tequila tasting which was fun. They have a pub crawl for $20 on Wed and Saturday – we wanted to go Wednesday night, but nobody else showed up, so it was cancelled. They had Casino night which was fun (playing for a prize, not money), and I won there too! (a free professional photo – but we didn’t get it because it was our last night). They had a Halloween Party which was complete with a buffet of themed food, a dance show with fire, a band and more. They also had a Mexican show one night but we didn’t attend. They also had Rifle Shooting, water aerobics, volleyball and some other things that we didn’t participate in. (Tip – there is a pool table and ping pong tables at the back end of the Gym that we discovered one night)
Dreams offers a shuttle to downtown Cabo San Lucas (drop off at the Mall) for $6 per person one way. You need a minimum of 4 people if you want to go one way, otherwise a minimum of 2 people round trip. You need to make a reservation with the concierge for the shuttle. The only drawback was that it only runs until 9:30, so if you want to try out some of the bars in the Marina, you will need to take a taxi, which costs $25 ONE WAY (due to the distance). Dreams is about a 20 minute drive from the Marina/downtown, and about 20 minutes from the airport. Taxis are expensive.
Overall, the food was very good. We have stayed at multiple all inclusive resorts, both together, and separate, including Barcelo, Grand Palladium and Secrets, in Mexico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, and Dreams had the best tasting food by far out of all of them. We felt that the menu selections left something to be desired though. We ate at the Breakfast buffet 3 times – it was the same exact food every time. Your typical scrambled eggs (also an omelet station), bacon, sausage, potatoes, pancakes, waffles, cereal, fruit, toast, etc. Everything tasted very good, but a little variety would’ve been nice. They serve the large buffet at El Patio, overlooking the ocean, and also a smaller buffet at The Seaside Grill (right next to it). There is also The Coco Café, which serves coffee and Danishes (open til 5pm), so we grabbed something small from there a few times. We also ordered breakfast room service one time, which was good (pretty much all the same selections as the buffet).
For lunch, we ate at the buffet a couple times or at the Seaside Grill. The nachos were disappointing – bagged tortilla chips, melted Velveeta looking cheese and refried beans. We also tried the shrimp cocktail, Mushroom Brushetta (delicious), Quesadillas, Fajitas, Shrimp Po’Boy, Pork Sandwich (amazing), Turkey Sandwich, Cheeseburger, Ham Rolls, Chicken Floutas and the Cobb Salad. Everything was good. I would’ve liked to see a grilled chicken sandwich or salad on the menu and maybe an option for just chips and salsa (with homemade REAL chips). The Oceana Restaurant is also open for lunch but we never ate there, because I don’t really like much seafood.
There is also an Italian Restaurant (Portofino) and Japanese Restaurant which are only open for dinner. We ate at Portofino twice – I had the lasagna (delicious), and the Raviolis (also good, but small portion). The Caesar salad was great and big and the minestrone soup was good. My husband had the two beef dishes – he said they were good. The appetizer portions are small, so order a couple of them. The Japanese restaurant was our favorite overall. Everything we had was AMAZING, including the sushi (and I don’t normally like sushi).
The Seaside Grill turns into a steakhouse at night. The steak was good, but because the cattle are free range, it doesn’t taste the same as steak in the US. Please keep that in mind. (for good tasting beef, to go Baha Brewing Company at the Marina, or Medano Beach). We never had dinner at the buffet or the Oceana (seafood) restaurant, so I cannot comment on them. The room service food was good (we ordered a couple times from the late night menu), but note, it takes about 30 to 40 minutes for them to bring it to your room. (but at least the orders were correct each time with no problem).
The restaurants that are open for dinner change every day, which was a little confusing. They give you an activity/information sheet each night, which lists the restaurants that are open that day, and what times, but it would’ve been nice to know the complete schedule at the beginning of the week, so we could’ve planned accordingly a little bit easier.
One of the more annoying things is the number of weddings they do at Dreams. We were there for 8 nights, and there had to be at least 10 to 15 weddings during that time. In the beginning of the week the place was very quiet and seemed almost empty (they said they were only at 40% capacity). Then, more and more people started arriving for weddings (one person had 65 people coming), so it got more and more crowded with rowdy people in their 20’s. (We are early 30’s). The one group was jumping over the edge of the pool, and throwing a football across the pool all day. It got annoying, so we moved to the Tranquility pool which was much more quiet and relaxing.
There is a “night club” called Desires Lounge, which is more like a bar room with some tables and a tiny “dance floor”. It was empty in the beginning of the week, but then the large wedding groups started going there, which made it loud and rowdy, so we’d usually leave early (and we WANTED to stay up later). The lobby bar closes at 11pm, so you are forced to sit in Desires if you still want to drink and enjoy yourself. The weddings end at 10:30 pm, and then everybody goes straight to Desires. At one point, we felt like we were crashing a wedding because we were the only people in the room that weren’t part of the wedding.
Overall, I would definitely recommend Dreams and would probably stay at a Dreams Resort again, just not the one in Cabo, due to the distance to downtown and the expense of going into town. We ended up going downtown about 4 times because there wasn’t anything to do at the resort after 10pm, but it got very expensive doing so.
To sum up – the food and service was great, but there are too many weddings which hindered our “relaxing honeymoon experience”. (that might not be an issue at a larger Dreams resort where things can be more spread out).

Excellence Riviera Maya
REVIEW: -cutiepie12702: August 2011.Our honeymoon we booked was supposed to be at the Gran Bahia Principe Ambar in PuntaCana, DR, but our trip was cancelled 10 hours before our flight was supposed to take off because of Hurricane Irene. Honestly, that was the best thing that could have happened to us! We went on Expedia and booked a trip to Mexico – the only place the storm was not headed. We picked this resort because of the trip advisor reviews, which had it rated as #1 of 23 hotels in that area. It was AMAZING! Couples only, top notch service, the food was like eating at a 5 star NYC restaurant every single night. I can’t say enough good things about this place – I have ZERO negatives and would go back to this place tomorrow if I could! We only had a few hours to find a place to go, and we really got lucky with our choice! Most of the couples there were celebrating their honeymoon or anniversary, and despite us booking less than 24 hours before we were scheduled to arrive we emailed the hotel that it was our honeymoon and they had special surprises waiting for us in our room as if we had booked months ago. It was a perfect honeymoon!

Key West, FL - Reach Resort
REVIEW - SpillerExtraordinaire: End of June 2010. We thought this place was awesome. Its a sister resort with Casa
Marina which is much, much bigger. It had a much smaller and intimate
feel. The location was also great, only a few blocks from the
southernmost point and a little over a mile from Mallory square. Since I
told them it was our honeymoon they made sure we had a room with a
great view and there were a few things they did for us over the course
of the week we were there. The staff were all great and helpful as
well.
Lake George, NY - Boathouse Bed & Breakfast
REVIEW - mbcdefg: We decided to take a short, local honeymoon right after our wedding, and
then take a bigger trip in the summertime. We looked around online for
places that we could drive to in a reasonable amount of time, and DH
found the Boathouse B&B's website. Their prices are a bit steep for a
B&B, but their website was advertising a special rate for March. DH
called and asked if they'd honor that rate for our April honeymoon and
they agreed, provided we booked it that same day. It took us a little
under four hours to drive there, and the ride through the Adirondacks
was lovely and made the time pass quickly. The B&B sits right on
Lake George and we had a fantastic view from both our room and from the
front porch. The innkeepers have two adorable miniature dachshunds, who
"showed off" by playing and wrestling on the lawn when they saw us. We
booked the Aridondack room, which came with a gas fireplace and a
jacuzzi tub, and we had a very comfortable night's sleep. We were the
only couple eating the delicious breakfast the following morning, and
when we took our coffee out onto the front porch and stared at the lake
we were completely relaxed and happy. Per the owner's suggestion, we
took a drive to Lake Placid and spent a good part of the day there. The
owners allowed us to use their firepit and we sat by the fire for a
while with our drinks. Two other couples joined us for breakfast the
next morning, but other than meeting them at breakfast we had no idea
that they were there. The rate was a bit more money than we'd normally
spend, but it was the one place we agreed on for a honeymoon
destination, and it was relaxing and the food was good and the
innkeepers were very nice.
