VENUES - CEREMONY
(if different than reception site)
Church of the Immaculate Conception (Somerville, NJ)
REVIEW: August 2011. The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception-Seton Hall University-A-My husband and I met at Seton Hall so this was the perfect place for us to get married. The chapel is so beautiful that I didn’t even need to add flowers or anything. It is pricey to use the chapel but they do provide an organist and a cantor who were both very good. There are some silly rules like no aisle runner allowed, but honestly, that saved me from spending money on something that would wind up in the garbage anyway.
Kirkpatrick Chapel at Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ)
REVIEW: October 2011. The chapel is gorgeous on its own (in my opinion) so we didn’t use much to decorate. We hung mini lanterns from the pews & that was it. Anne was our student coordinator & she was very helpful at the rehearsal & ceremony. She took care of our ceremony music & everything went smoothly.
Holy Family Church (Nutley, NJ)
Our Lady of Sorrows Church (South Orange, NJ)
Reeves-Reed Arboretum (Summit, NJ)
REVIEW - flochan07: May 2011 wedding. Gorgeous grounds. They only allow one wedding per day however the grounds are not closed to the public during the day. The public is barred from entering the house and the Azalea garden but the rest of the Arboretum is open. I did not have any problems with wedding crashers. Tents are only allowed once a month. The rental manager is not the easiest to get in contact with as she doesn't work Mondays and only has availability during normal working hours. I felt that she only contacted me when she wanted something. Having my photos taken on the grounds was the only redeeming factor of this venue. Make sure you pick up everything when you leave the grounds. We were charged $50 for the few rose petals that were left on site.
St. Bartholomew the Apostle Parish (Scotch Plains, NJ)
REVIEW- Em72653: October 2011. Father John was great!! Britney the wedding coordinator was great!! Our Pre-Cana couple was great!! The ceremony was great!! My husbands only compliant was that he felt like he was getting lectured during the ceremony readings by the priest. I kinda felt that way too but didn’t really bother me. Maybe he felt that way because he isn’t catholic, lol. The church is just absolutely beautiful too!!!
REVIEW - cindyn9178: September 2011.(A-) Judy Dillon, the church coordinator, was very nice, however we felt she made the rehearsal more complicated and drawn out than it needed to be. Other than that, everything went smoothly. Father John Palladino was great, and the entire process was perfect. He put us at ease during the ceremony. It is a beautiful church, and he is a wonderful, laid back Priest.
St. Catharine of Siena (Seaside Park, NJ)
REVIEW - NikkiPSU: June 2011 wedding. Father John was awesome with us through the whole wedding planning process! I think he got the point that we didn't want a drawn out ceremony, our Catholic ceremony was 35 minutes long! I think that may be a record!
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (Three Bridges, NJ)
REVIEW - katetw: May 2011 wedding. I'm not gonna grade my parish, that feels funny, but I will say that if you're looking at getting married here (and aren't already part of the parish), maybe look somewhere else. I love the church and I really like the priest (although our friend who is a priest actually did our wedding), but the secretary in charge of arranging weddings was AWFUL to work with. (The parish has several day-of wedding coordinators, which are NOT the same thing, and the one we were assigned was wonderful. I'm talking about the parish secretary specifically in charge of weddings and deposits.)
St. Leo's Church (Elmwood Park, NJ)
REVIEW : September 2011. A-I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Fr. Bart and the whole St. Leo’s family. He went out of his way to bring up some pillars from the church basement so I wouldn’t have to pay the florist to bring them. Only downside was that the singer decided to wear a peasant dress and knee high casual brown boots to sing at my wedding. It was a shared laugh between me and my maid of honor on the altar for sure!
St. Francis de Sales (Vernon, NJ)
REVIEW - gymchick05: June 2011 wedding. This is my church and I knew they had some strict rules when it comes to weddings. Overall, the rehearsal and ceremony ran great, we had a beautiful ceremony and everyone was raving about it. Our priest Father Boland couldn’t have been nicer to me when I was upset over a situation that happened early in the day and he even fixed my flower girl’s flower ball when she broke the handle after repeatedly beating it against the pew. Ellen the wedding coordinator is wonderful to work with and has an amazing voice (she is the music coordinator too). We also had the organ and harpist, which made the music sound incredible.
St. Michael's Parish of the Resurrection (Jersey City, NJ)
REVIEW - mbcdefg: I
don't consider a church to be a "vendor," but I thought I'd include
this here in case someone else is marrying in this parish and wanted to
ask questions. There was never a question that we'd marry
anyplace else, since this is my family's parish and my parents and
grandparents were married here. It was a great experience and I highly
recommend it if you are looking to join a Roman Catholic church in the
Jersey City area. It's a very nice community to be a part of.
St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church (Ramsey, NJ)
REVIEW - Laurms15: This has been my church my entire life. I received all of my other
sacraments there so it was fitting that we get married there. They were
easy to work with and our priest Fr. Nigel was SO funny. Everyone has
been commenting on how funny and light the service was.
